Queer Student Union
The Queer Student Union at Indiana University aims to empower LGBTQ+ students through community building and advocacy at IU. We are undergraduate & graduate students dedicated to the advancement of queer livelihood and intersectionality in all forms. Founded in Fall 2020, the QSU offers opportunities for students to participate on three committees—Communications, Programming, and Advocacy— as well as in leadership positions. We focus on community building and advancement of queer livelihood and are a spiritual successor to organizations such as OUT.
BLAQ
BLAQ is an organization for Black LGBTQ+ students to find a safe space on campus. Through various programming and initiatives, we hope to create a tight-knit community and to make IU's LGBTQ+ spaces more inclusive and more friendly to Black LGBTQ+ students.
oSTEM
Our group intends to hold up the oSTEM mission through developing a welcoming environment for all members, creating outreach experiences to educate the public about STEM, providing opportunities for members to grow professionally, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people’s place in the STEM workplace and the world. We aim to encourage connections between and foster solidarity among the STEM/LGBTQ+ community at Indiana University as well as provide access to the broader STEM/LGBTQ+ community through attending conferences, visiting other chapters, and hosting local speakers. In addition to cultivating a support network for STEM/LGBTQ+ student through these community efforts, we aim to afford access to resources which are beneficial to navigating the STEM field as an LGBTQ+ individual, such as but not limited to scholarship announcements, relevant books, and legal rights information.
Out at Kelley
Out at Kelley offers programming for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and allies to form a community, learn, and grow together. Through events like our book club, professional networking nights, social dinners, and more, we seek to create a welcoming and inclusive environment in the Kelley School of Business and encourage our members to expand their personal and professional networks. We also seek to address diversity-related issues both within and beyond the business environment and hope to drive social impact in our current and future communities for queer people. We celebrate all students and their unique skills and talents, which should never be hindered by sexual orientation, self-expression, or other identities. Our atmosphere of acceptance, inclusion, and diversity provides opportunities for students to learn and grow in order to become successful future business leaders.
Queer Students in Healthcare
QSIH is determined to diversify the future of healthcare by increasing LGBTQ+ representation in health professions and addressing the issues impacting the health of LGBTQ+ patients. We are tackling the issues of today and creating the professionals of tomorrow with a five-pronged approach:
Advocacy: Raising awareness on campus for policies impacting LGBTQ+ health and organizing opportunities for members to advocate for change
Professional Development: Supporting the academic and professional growth of members through workshops, presentations, and activities
Diversity: Setting the tone that diversity, inclusion, and the intersection of identities are central to healthcare by educating members through workshops and presentations from diverse healthcare professionals
Volunteering: Shaping the wellness of LGBTQ+ individuals and the Bloomington community by connecting members to service opportunities
Wellness: Providing members with ways to lower stress and improve mental and physical health to prioritize supporting one’s self first in order to make an impact upon others
If you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community planning to pursue a career in healthcare, or if you are passionate about our mission of impacting LGBTQ+ health, we would love to have you join us. See you at our next meeting!
