Celebrating 25 years of anything is notable…be it a birthday, a wedding anniversary, or a moment in history. Celebrating 25 years of advocacy and education and support for a group of individuals who once ‘lived in the shadows’ is, quite frankly, phenomenal.
On November 16 and 17, 2019, Indiana University’s LGBTQ+ Culture Center will be celebrating in grand fashion with food and festivities, a dance party, a presentation by nationally-renowned LGBTQ+ activist Shane Windmeyer, and a retirement party for the outgoing director of the LGBTQ+ Culture Center, Doug Bauder.
On Saturday, November 16, members of the IU community (students, staff, faculty, alumni) and friends of the LGBTQ+ Culture Center members will gather in the Solarium of the Indiana Memorial Union for a cocktail reception followed by a dinner ($25 per guest registration) in Alumni Hall. Featured speaker during the dinner will be IU graduate Shane Windmeyer, founder and executive director of the nationally recognized advocacy program for LGBTQ+ students on college campuses around the country, Campus Pride Incorporated. Following the dinner, a free dance will be held in the Solarium featuring a local DJ for students and anyone interested in attending. Desserts will be served at that time.
Then on Sunday, November 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., a retirement brunch will be held in the Solarium of the Indiana Memorial Union to honor the 25 years of service of LGBTQ+ Culture Center Director Doug Bauder. This event will be free and open to the public.
